smell of petrol

Post smell of petrol

can anyone help i have a wrx 02 impreza when its a very cold morning and i first start the car i get a strong smell of petrol.i have checked for leaks but cant find any and the car runs perfect. when the weather is mild or warm i don't get any smell at all , could anyone tell me what is causing this and how to sort it out thanks

Very common, just had the same problem after increasing the fuel pressure and fitting new injectors. There are rubber hoses under the inlet manifold which are connected to the metal fuel pipes. When cold they contract and leak fuel. To resolve this you have to remove the inlet manifold to get to them to re tighten or replace. I am planning to do this before next winter and I will be installing manifold spacers and header tank insulators as well as changing the serial feed to parallel feed using braided hose.
