Default Explanation: Symmetrical 4-wheel drive

Hi,

Can anyone give me a brief overview of the symmetrical 4 wheel drive system? I own a 2005 2.5 WRX and would like to know a bit more about it. I'm assuming it is basically 25% of the available power to each wheel but does it have the ability to root more power to any give wheel or give more to the fronts/rear or vice versa?

Cheers
