The main difference between the 97/98 sti and wrx intercooler is the size of the end tank (sti being a bit bigger). Also, the pipe to the turbo is alloy rather than plastic. Oh, and one is silver and one is black.
Basically, it isn't really worth upgrading (been there before).
You're better of going for a front mount.

mate their is a link in that thread which compares all the TMIC inter coolers. which is in the first part of the thread. im sure that would have helped to show if it made any difference in charge temps. etc etc.
