Default lumpy tickover probs

Hi all, doin my nut in here!!!

I've swapped the engine on my '94 wrx but cannot get it to tickover smoothly. I bought a short engine (with heads on) and transferred sensors, intake etc from mine.

It does seem to smooth out when being revved (but hard to tell properly with that flat 4 burble).

99% sure on the following

not maf
not tps
not idle control valve
can't find any leaks
not lambda
not plugs
not coil packs
not dump valve
battery is a bit fooked???? (cant see its that)

the strange thing is though when you first start it, it is really smooth and level for about 5 seconds then it starts to hunt quite badly?????????

anyone got any ideas?????

before I put a match to the bleedin thing!.....lol

cheers in advance guys

assuming you have checked timing belt is timed properly?

have you checked for air leaks from loose pipes or dodgy inlet gaskets?

Johnnyroper!!!!

that was the problem, a few sprays of brake cleaner soon showed the problem - and engine briefly smoothed out.

so stripped down and a bit of sealant added and jobs a goodun!

Thanks again matey
