Default Power upgrade for WRX

I have an 02 wrxx bugeye wagon with PPP.

Having it remapped by Andy F soon and I am looking for some advice regarding supporting mods.

Car currently has 2nd decat, H&S centre pipe and prodrive wr sport back box with Simota panel filter.

I have a TSL de cat down pipe, walbro 255 fuel pump, AEM cold air intake and large top mount intercooler to be fitted to the car.

Option 1.

Fit the above parts along with a de cat up pipe. Not sure of the benefit of the cold air intake and intercooler though?

Cost would be £150ish for up pipe and £600 for re map. £650 total

What power should I expect?

Option 2.

Do the above with the addition of an AFTD04 hybrid turbo and STI pink injectors.

Cost would be £500ish for turbo, £250 for injectors plus the up pipe and re map. £1400 total.

How much more power can I expect from this compared to option 1.

Any advice and opinions would be greatly apreciated

Fitting the pump won't be necesary with the TD04, so you can fit it at any time as it won't be needed for/or need a remap.

If you intend going full decat, you may as well fit it now I would say, replace the underfloor cat if you want to be 'less illegal' or for MOT as its easier.

The up-pipe cat is a power killer, and probably of more benefit than any other decat!

If you don't have the larger TMIC now, you can fit it later, optimising the map for just that doesn't really gain much if its mapped properly to start with anyway...(ignition v air intake temp offset).

option 2 would give you approx 320 bhp

£1400

sell original turbo for 150
sell original injectors for 150
sell original exhaust for 100

there you go , £1000 for 100 bhp

Thanks for the input. Pinks have been purchased and it looks like an AFTD05 16G will be used instead of the TD04 hybrid. Have an aftermarket large tmic to go with it. Hoping for 325bhp with a switchable map set around 225 - 250 for economy.

Had my bugeye remapped last Thursdsy by Andy with the following mods:

Prodrive back-box
Decat centre
STi up-pipe - ported
STi PPP Sports cat downpipe
STi 500cc pink injectors
A set of NGK PFR7B plugs
A VF35 turbo
A Walbro Fuel Pump 255
Turbo to intercooler 'Y' pipe
Ported and wrapped headers
Replacement filter

Ended up with 306bhp (though Andy thought I could have pushed the 310 on the road dyno run if I changed up at 6.5k and not the 6k I did). Said I would have to go full decat to get 330 (I'm running a sports cat downpipe).

You should get your 325 just fine.

Oh, don't forget that the EGT sensor needs removing and a 2.2KΩ resistor fitted in place. The up-pipe on our cars have a sensor in them but a replacement up-pipe might not (double-check). 10 min job.

Btw - Andy recommended I got the Samco Turbo to intercooler 'Y' pipe.

Richard.

View my Scooby for the list of mods I carried out myself prior to Andy's remap.

I got hold of a Prodrive Sports cat for mine, Andy initially thought this would restrict me to the 280/290 point but following several power runs he concluded this wasn't the case. I could have pushed it higher with Octane Booster (& the map for it) but wanted a safety margin and reliability of course.

As Richard said, fit the resistor in the EGT Sensor connector. I used one of harvey's Up-pipes, he added a bung to the sensor hole. From what I read the EGT Sensor is pretty delicate and without the Up-pipe cat they have been known to fail and enter the turbo.

One thing I did do is have Mark @ Lateral Performance flow test and clean my second hand Injectors, well worth the (small) expense before fitting them in my opinion...

It's good to see that the power figures are pretty consistent. 310bhp's with a sportscat downpipe and 330 with a full decat.

I was tempted to get the STi 8 TMIC, but didn't feel I needed it for the power figures I was looking for. If I did/do for one in the future then I might get a replacement bonnet scoop as well to help with the air flow.

I just did it all at once, I'm still using a Standard WRX scoop, and you can notice a slight drop when on full throttle for a while, I'm hoping to change to a FMIC soon and sell my STi one.
