This may have been posted before but I cannot find it.

Problem is I have a RB5 MY99 which has just had its 30.000 service.(Car is new to me as I had a MY97 which did not have this problem)
When I come to a stop after a quick blast. (thought dam traffic lights) The car tickover is very lumpy it fluctuates between 1000 to nothing, car judders and if lights are on the lights dim. This has happen quite a few times now even so bad the car has just stopped a couple of times. I have a mate who has a MY99 and has the same problem after 30.000 service.

I am taking it back to the deliver to check out on Saturday, but wonder if this has affected anybody else ??

Cheers Neobase

Maybe first signs of the MAF sensor about to go.

I took car to local dealer they checked the problem and are going to replace the MAF sensor. They also has a other my99 with the same problem in, this seem like a common problem ?. Also there are going to sort out under warrenty as I have only had the car 3 weeks !!

cheers

I had exactly the same problem, same symptoms.
No replacement panel filter, no induction kit, just removal of the resonator.

It seems to be a fairly common failure (with thin film MAF's)

Yup same as that on MY00, it gets worse, mine got so bad it stalled nearly every time I stopped at lights
It was changed 3 months ago, and its just started doing it again this week, mines got a RamAir filter in, which I've been told don't help things. The dealer said they have had no problems with these filters though

Question

hi, we are having the same problems, ours has got an ITG panel filter on
If it is the MAF sensor will the dealer replace the part (i heard £200 somewhere) as i have modified the car, so would it be safer to stick the old paper filter on?

Yep I just had the same problem on my MY99. It was the O2 sensor (not sure if that's the same as Maff) and it cost me 95 quid to replace. The car runs ok now (doesn't stall) but it does seem to be a little lumpy...am just seeing how it goes before deciding whether or not to take it back into the dealer. The power seems to come and go in fits and starts.

A mate of mine had the exact problems....and that was caused by a fecked throttle position sensor.

Hi
I just had the car in dealer replaced the MAF, it seems better does not stall at the moment, but when I come to a stop it still seems to try and stall this only lasts for about 10-20 seconds then tickover is back to 800-900 ? I am going to see what happens over the next few days.

The car drives perfectly all other times only when I have to stop ! it just seem to take a few seconds to sort out that the airflow has changed or something’s like that. The only modification it has is a back box and runs on optimax. I have tried other super unleaded and this makes no difference.

i had a simailar problem and all the sensors checked out ok. Turned out to be my cat breaking down.

That was at 30000 miles by the way

Question

Am I right in assuming you car drives perfectly under all other conditions - ie no other hesitation of misfires when under heavy load (run tall) or WOT?
