Simtek is the value for money deal when wanting to lose the MAF out of the equation. £850.00 fitted and mapped. It has many, many features of the higher priced items and works very well. It is relatively new to the market but is certainly a very capable replacement for the previously all conquering A'Pexi, which is no longer available for the 92 -96 year cars.
If you are dealing with a pre 97 car you'll need a high pressure MAP sensor as the original on early cars only permits about 1 - 1.1 bar. To get decent performance you need to be on a higher boost level than above.
Call me if you want a sensible conversation about the upgrade.

This might not apply so much to classics (especially the earlier models), but from an article on Greenwood Racing Developments in Japanese Performance it seems as though it is possible to replace the MAF with MAP sensor on the newage Denso ECU's and remap them with ECUTek.
Would be interested to know what is involved in getting this done.

There is no real issue with failing MAF's on New age cars. It is not a problem that comes up regularly. It is most acute on classics between 99 and 2001.
It can be an advantage to lose the MAF on earlier GC8 cars which also do not have a serious MAF problem but within the life of the car if you have to replace two MAF's and one version costs 260 odd quid it would be nice to be able to do away with it.
However it would be an advantage on any car with a front mount to use a MAF-less system as many of the cars with MAF's suffer all sorts of problems with front mounts, such as surge and turbo flutter and so blowing the MAF out by air coming from the wrong direction on shut throttle situations.
