Default Check engine warning light

Hi

I'm after some advise if anyone can help :-

The "check engine" warning indicator on my dash keeps intermittently flashing on - it stays on for 2 seconds at the most and happens maybe once a week. It has happened at various stages through the engine revs.

I had the cambelts etc changed by my local dealer about 500 miles ago.

Anyone got any ideas - is this a serious issue, as the manual implies that the light should stay on (ie not flash) before contacting the dealer?

Thanks in advance!!
