Default Can you reverse a standard inlet manifold?

Is it possible to simply reverse a standard inlet manifold for use with a front mount intercooler?

Isn't that what those with reversed manifolds have done? Just turned it round, and found somewhere to bolt everything back on?

I have seen it done twice, both times with aftermarket manifolds, but that's not to say it deffinatly can't be done. £1200 is the cheepest I have seen them for!

Depends on the year but the 93-96 manifold cant be simple reversed. The 97-00 can be but work still needs to be done to get it all working correctly.

Why would you want to reverse a manifold? I've got a FMIC and not had to do it. Does it imporve air flow or something similar?

its main reason is when people fit rotated turbo set ups the manifold has to be reversed because theres no room for the fmic pipework.

with doing this it also reduces the total length in intercooler pipework

The shorter the pipework run, the less lag you will get from the turbo.

it is easier to blank off the original throttle body flange, and then get a new flange welded onto the front.

Then somethings in the way.... so butcher aircon if present and off you go !

They say a good mapper will minimise the lag, but you just need to be in the right gear at the right time....

Yes you can. I've done it to mine and including welding the re cut original FMIC pipe work it cost me £130.
There's some pics of it taking shape here including the alteranot relocation and pully mounting.

Hope they are of some use.

Got a MY05sti with APS650 fmic and reversed STI inlet manifold om my car.

MotecM800, rotated Garrett GT3032 turbo and PE800 etc

Done by another firm than above mentioned.

Works on all imprezas, but you have to modify the transitions some, cabling, fueling etc. Saves a bit of IC length and simplifyes the engine bay. The IC cold side gets in front of the engine etc.

in total probably cost me about 50 quid

Very possible and well worth it if you want to go all out (for a track car perhaps), not a lot of mods required for GC/GF, and allows some really nasty turbos to be installed with less hassle (supporting mods/management a must).
