No, most gearboxes go form about 3.5:1 in first to about 0.8:1 in top, (and I don't just mean subaru's) to shorten all the ratios you need to change the front and rear final drive's, or do you want closer ratios?

Well be sure what you want, closer ratios (so taller first then more closely stacked ratios to a shorter 5th) are only really needed when you have a much peakier engine, I suspect your problem is more your current state of engine tune than your gearbox ratios...get some mods on to give you more top end thus making the lower gears mor useable...

What???
I take it a 'blob' is a std wrx?
Depending on model there are JDM close ratios available, but it will usually mean gearbox and rear diff unless yours is a lucky match at the back.
You will sacrifice motorway comfort and limit top speed, but the fun in the twisty bits is worth it.
The most immediately appreciable mods I have ever done are a close ratio box, Sti lightened flywheel and plated rear/helical front diffs. (DCCDs are lots of fun too).

no the blob (eye) indicates that its a 03>05 wrx
Thought about going for a 6sp? More expensive but you will certainly get closer ratio without compromising your top end/cruising speed

I have a short ratio box for sale at the moment (see for sale section), I also have a Uk transfer case so yes, you can can get a short ratio box to fit your car, mine has the correct front diff etc so it will swap straight in.
