Nope, the ones that had them were version 1 & 2 STi type Ra / Wrx type Ra.

And the 22b. (Forgot about that one).

Which is best and why?
Or should the question be..
What are both the advantages and disadvantages of Closed and open deck blocks?

For ultimate power with reliability, the closed deck is best.
The version 1 & 2 cars I listed above had a closed deck block because of the rules of rallying at that time, i.e. the rally car had to have the same block as the road car.
The rules changed in 1996 when the WRC regulations came in. So the version 3 to 6 cars had open deck blocks because I guess it's easier / cheaper to manufacture, but is fine for road car power levels / abuse. While the rally cars still used closed deck.
Newage cars have a semi closed design.

It's not only the version 1 & 2 STi type RA that runs the closed deck blocks. My version 1 turbo runs a closed deck with piston squirters. It's an Italian imported version 1 wagon from 1994.

I stock 93 RA won't take much more than 1.4 bar of boost. I think the cast pistons would fail before the block does. I know a man who makes closed deck blocks out of standard ones, lots of welding and machine work involved.
