How do I lower the boost?
Just a quick question I have a 1997 Impreza STI that is running to much boost at 1.0 bar its rapid then full throttle it will peak at 1.2/1.4 bar and the fuel cut comes in . How do I lower the boost to max 1.0 bar. Many thanks in advance,

Does it do it all the time on just when the weather is colder?
Depends really a remap is the best way but more expensive (as for your car you will have to change the ecu at the moment although there are some plans from ESL to change that).
Quick fix is to fit a manual boost controller such as the dawes device (3 Bar Racing---Home Page) (get it set up properly as well)
Maybe a quick run on a r/r may help.

Shouldn't an STI run at 1.0 bar as standard? When you say 1.2-1.4 bar at full throttle is that a boost spike or does it hold before cut?
Rather than running off to the nearest re-map, find the reason. Are there any non OE boost controllers fitted? Boost associated hoses all okay? Boost associated solenoids all in working order? etc etc

Drive the car normally on half throttle and will boost up as it should. Its only when you try and drive a bit harder. Yes the easy answer would be drive it normally !!! It holds at 1.2/1.4 then cuts about 4500 rpm to 5500 rpm higher than that again its fine? The car has got a "HKS air fuel ratio regulator" fitted ??? And is set at position 7 ??? apart from that it looks relatively standard.

Still got the cats? A decat can provide boost spikes. a remap will solve that and make sure your car is performing better for the mods as well as within a safe limit.
It is expensive but the benefits are huge. Agree on ditching the HKS.

If you took it for a map in its present condition they'd have to find and put right this fault anyway. A very expensive way to solve what may be a simple fix. Okay... If you were thinking of mapping it soon then why not, but a re-map sometimes isn't the answer to every problem in the world.

I'd take out the HKS thingy first and try a diagnostic check and reset the ECU using the connectors under the steering column.

I had this problem with my old STi VIII. It kept hitting the fuel cut the the extent that I was fed up with driving it! After several efforts at solving the problem it was cured when I fitted a Blitz DS boost controller set at 1.25bar. It was checked for fuelling, etc on a rolling road and never missed a beat afterwards.
I actually fitted the boost controller behind the carpet in the drivers footwell. You could get to it to adjust if you had too but it reduced the temptation to keep cranking the boost up!
