Default MOT fail

My car went for its MOT today and failed , It needs new front pads & discs , f/ns caliper binding , power steering leek , rear brake pipes corroded , hand brake ajusting , the rough price ive been quoted is about 300 - 500 pounds to do the job including the MOT fee ( 50 quid ) , does this sound about right , OR am i having my pants pulled down ? , he said the rear brake pipes are a bitch to do and the tank has to be dropped ?? is this true .dont look like i will be going tunnel run now as im having trouble finding the 300 - 500 pound . not somthing i have laying about at this time of the month .. .

PLEASE HELP any advice will be nice cheers WAZ

thats a big window to work from cost wise,
Depends what the Power steering leak is and how hard the rear brake pipes are to do,
The rest is really easy to do so you could save some money and do the rest.

You can do the hand brake adjustment and the pads and discs on the ground.Hand brake takes 5mins to do and you dont even need a jack.front pads and discs an hour to do(with jack+axle stands)If you need the metal brake pipes done and not the rubber flexy pipes it is a big job and would help having a ramp.I take it hes going to cut the old metal pipe and bend and join new pipe to suit above petrol tank or did he quote you for a complete original length of brake pipe from subaru that will just connect straight in??? One more thing dont mean to scare you but my mate bought a 00 sti and the power steering hose broke going to the resevoir and spilled all over the manifold causing no power steering and a fire at 70mph.Not good.destroyed the engine loom, samcos, bonnet etc.try get it sorted if its a bad leak.

if its the o ring seal its a 15min job and you could of done it your self with a 10mm socket !! the price seems rather steep to me but im used to doing my own work!! dont really like shelltune think there **** but iv only dealt with them once a few years ago

You live in Northampton and didn't know about Zen performance?

If its not too late I'd swallow the £50 MOT, take it to Zen and let them sort it out, what you describe doesn't sound like a £500 job to me!

Edit - but if you need it done by Thursday I don't think theres many choices...

Default mot fail

To be honest i did not think ZEN did mot's , Ive used Zen before and had no problems what so ever , i visit paul a few times on passing by the door . , I took the car to Shelltune because its just down the road from where i work ( easy to walk to work from there ) and i did not think that there was much wrong with it , just the Mot and the handbrake, the thing i thought it would fail on was the emissions having a full de-cat but it passed..so i get what i deserve really for taking it to a non- scooby garage..
i will know next time.. .

I was always told never ever go to a garage that do MOTs and repairs as often theyll screw you over. (unless theyre a very reputable garage)

But ive always been warned not to go to cheep places that can fix the problems themselves as they lie their ***** off to get your cash, and obviousley turning up in a scoob is just going to be pound signs to their eyes, little do they know we are always broke!!
