Question Noise when turning?

Hopefully somebody will have come across this before, I'm not technical so keep it simple please

I'm getting a noise when turning, no noise when driving straight but it's there when turning either left or right and it gets faster in line with the speed of the car.

It's coming from the front end, seems to be near the wheels & sounds like something is catching, best way I can describe it is like a cracking noise, very similar to a ratchet noise.

I'm thinking maybe a dry or knackered CV joint perhaps but not too sure

Anybody got any ideas?

Wheel bearings tend to make a droning noise under load ie when turning.... cv joints on the other hand do knock when they are on the way out,so the clicking noise would seem to be the cv joint.
