Default New age power steering pulley removal?

Hi,

Has anyone removed the big lumpy of a pulley for the power steering (the 3 rd unit on the right) and replaced it with a light weight job?
I see there's an allen key bolt on the end but how hard is it to removed the oe pulley?

Oh, plus what's the 3 round items on the front of the pulley - balancing items?

I take it you have a Bugeye model?

If it is the pulley itself is not easy to remove.

The allen key bit you are looking at doesn't have a bolt in it,

You will need to remove the whole unit from your car ,, undo the back , remove a circlip and someother bits without damaging the bearings and then use a strong press to press the shaft out and press the pulley off ,...

Tbh it is 10 times easier to get a 03+ pump and fit that

Oh blimey, scrap that idea...

Yeh, soz got mixed up, its the one with the alloy pipe going in which must be the air con unit - big heavy looking pulley. what's the 03+ air con unit like and will you have to "bleed" the system after fitting etc?

Yes , the third on the right is the air-con if you are facing the car ,

No-body currently makes aftermarket parts for it as it is far to costly and too much involved to change anything

The p/s pulley on a my03 is easy enoughto change

Soz, me being a pleb I guess...

The one on left (facing) is the power steering and is easy to change? When my engine was built I had 3 performance pulley set but they couldn't get the above off...

What did you use to get it off with? I'm up for changing that one if no special tools required. I've heard the fitting can be different on different age cars...mine's an 02.

Thanks Chris, I've now heard its the push on fit for the 02 so I'd need a puller to get it off - something I dont have. I'll scrap the ideal.

How hard are 03 pump pulleys to get off exactly and does anyone supply them 2nd hand? 50/50 on wether its worth bothering with...as might end up making a mess of something that's reliable.

Unauthordox racing (think that was how its spelt), website in the USA...had 3 pulley kit....top quality.

When my car was in the local scooby garage to get the other CDF racing ones fitted they didnt want to try the power steering oone as it was sweating about the connectors, so may aswel look for a new one and then get a new shiney green one off CDF.

I changed the complete pump as well ....... You have to modify the black plastic pulley cover after though, as the pipe exits/enters (?) as a different position to the Bugeye.

How much weight do you think you saved, just the pulley or was the pump different? Do you bleed the system after as I've never touched a power steering pump before?

When you have the new pulley on ,and the pipe fitted ... move the steering wheel to left and right a few times to get the oil back into the system ,.

Give it ago fitting your U/R one , You will need access of a press to get the old one off...

If you have any problems I have all model power steering pulleys in stock , and a newage pump is a straight swap .
