Default Timing Belt?

Do any of you guys do this yourself or do you take it to a garage to get done.

Ive got a bit of common sense and not worried about giving it a go myself unless it is strongly advised to me that i get a pro to do it..

Whats your opinion??

Rich

Do mine myself. Its not to much of a hard job and no special tools needed unlike some cars. Leave yourself 4 or 5 hrs the first time you do it. Once youve done it the first time it'll take you around 2 hrs to complete.

I would recommend getting a belt with the timing marks on it. It makes it a little easier.

if your not familier with boxer engines then me personally i would stay whell away. leave it to someone who knows cos if you time it wrong or dont put things back properly then serious engine damage could entail. thats my personal opinion though

if you do it yourself depending on age of car you may need additional items like a new tensioner and pulleys.

Dont worry about it being a boxer engine the principals are the same just a different layout. It is relatively easy to do and like turbotits says for the first time give yourself plenty of time (maybe remove the radiator for better access)

I dont get all if your not familier with a boxer engine stay away? There easier to do than many straight four engines.

I've got a belt to do on a diesel escort tommorow and would much rather do a subaru. Infact its two belts on the escort. One for cam and one for pump and have to have alignment tools to do it.

Its not as bad as you think it will be. Now I have done my own. I won't ever be going to a garage again to have it done.

Chris..

Irrational comments like that are what drives up the service and maintainence costs of Imprezas, the engine is a doddle to work on! So many mechanics seem to make out that its some kind of mysterious beast.
