which turbo for 2.35?
Hey guys, i'm having my built 2.35 built at the mo, now i'm at the turbo choice stage and am a bit lost as to which one to choose. What I want is quick spool, minimal lag and around 500hp plus.
What are the best options from your experience?
cheers

Mark, I don't have an exact figure but i'm hoping 520-540bhp, I was thinking the smallest turbo that can push that at the top end of its range. would any of the GT30 cope or is it a case of GT35?
thanks

In my opinion, the GT30R is too small for a genuine 540bhp on standard pump fuel, even V Power, with a max of 520bhp possible on the right engine/heads.
I think a hybrid GT3040 would be better for 540/550bhp, and still retain good spool up.
A GT35 is more capable, but it will be noticeably laggier.

gt30r with .82 ex a/r can make the figures your after with the right fueling, But if you just going to run pump fuel, then you may be better of with a GT35 with 0.63 a/r to get the quick spool.

On my 2.35 build... I used a MD321t... it was a great choice IMHO, pulled really well...
Also it still bolts up in the standard position, so keeps costs down...
May not quite make the power your after... but still a very good choice...

As Mark said above, GT30R will be stretching it plus it needs a fancy expensive rotated up-pipe, downpipe and external wastegate. Have a look at a Hybrid GT3040 (needs all the pipework mentioned above) or maybe an FP RED which bolts on in the standard place for around 500-520 or if you are up for a fitting challenge try the Slowboy Racing 35R, direct bolt on for even more power than 540.

Experts, i've narrowed it down to two options:
1. GT3040
2. GT3542 with 0.63 housing
My application is for road use primarily, how would these differ on the road?
RCM rate the gt3040 at 600bhp on their website, im guessing that is the upper limit so supporting 540 should be a walk in the park. Is this true?
On both when would I be hitting full boost approximately?
cheers

Sparks,
The GT3542 is a good turbo, but NOT for what you want. It is too big, and relatively laggy.
The GT30R .82, is PERFECT for circa 500bhp, with great spool up, and response, or the GT3040 .82 for circa 550bhp, also with very good spool up, and response.
Mark.
