Cambelt tensioner ?
I've just fitted a new cambelt today. When I pulled the pin from the tensioner it slowly came out and took up the tension in the belt. I turned the engine over using a spanner on the crank a few times and the tensioner came out a bit more.
Is this how it should work as I was under the impression that when you pull the pin out of the tensioner that the rod would shoot out and instantly tension the belt ?

That makes me feel abit better.
I'm just getting paranoid about it all now !
The other thing that worried me was that I used a genuine Subaru belt with all the timing marks on it but with all the pulleys etc lined up the marks on the belt don't line up where they should do. I've turned the engine over by hand a few turns and everything seems 100% lined up.
Anyone else had this ?

ignore the marks on the belt, as long as the marks on the cams and crank line up then you should be okay. Like you have done, rotate the crank a good few times just to make sure
(2 crank rotations = 1 cam rotations )
(2 crank rotations = 1 cam rotations )
