Default overheating problem

ive been having a few problems recently with overheating . the water pump started to leak , so i changed that and the belt and put a new thermostat in it while i was there.

now after all that its still overheating.

ive removed the thermostat completely and it now doesnt over heat but the gauge reads next to zero temperature , sometimes moving up to the half.

any ideas what the problem is

when you put the new pump in did you make sure it rotated cleanly both ways without friction?

I recently did mine with the engine in the car and the gasket got caught when I put the new water pump in. Result was the pump wouldnt rotate freely. Luckily I checked before I did the belt and tensioner!! lol

Failing that, when I got mine back up and running it did overheat at first (have power fc and commander and temps was in the high 90's initially) but took it for a run and it soon settled. checked to top it up the following day when cool

but then explain why it doesnt do it while its not got the stat in it . this is what i dont understand..

the fact it doesnt do it when the thermostat isnt there suggests to me that its a problem with the thermo stat, but ive changed it twice .
