Default Air lock

guys car is getting very hot coolant is full up but coming out of the overflow, when driving along it getts hotter than when sat in traffic I would expect it to get cooler not hotter! It's all very strange im thinking it must be an airlock as it's not loosing coolant!

I filled it up previously through the plasic thing on the passenger side of the engine bay not the header tank, would this be the problem?

You fill it up at the header tank, and keep the other bottle topped up. by the sounds of it, if it's not an air lock, it could well be a water pump failiure. when the system is cold, take the cap off the header tank and start the car, you should see movement in the tank straight away

iv got the same prob mate,,,im just getting new water pump and uprated 1.25mm head gaskets (as it might be the head gaskets that have gone)

iv just had a engine rebuild ,,and got the car mapped up to 1.4 bar (after 2k miles),,,and i think this has caused the heads to lift on boost,,all is fine if i keep it off boost

Can only be one of 3 things.

Blocked radiator
Thermostat not opening
Headgasket

Not particuarly in that order, but worth checking or temporarily removing your thermostat,if that does'nt cure it, remove the rad and reverse flush it. If still no better, you will be looking at a head or headgasket fault.

Hi thanks

i filled it up again last night, was fine this morning but temp started to creep up if driven hard, checked the pump and it seems to be flowing o.k water is coming out of the small rubber overflow by the battery though, the other thing is the rad seems to have a tiny hole in the top corner, when i was squeezing the air out of the bottom hose i could hear air coming out of the header and the little hole!
Would this explain why i cant get the air out?
Why would it be coming out of the overflow?

Thanks

The hole in the rad will cause the problem you are having. When the cooling system gets up to temperature, it pressurises and keeps the water from expanding too much, also keeping the temp down.

Im now very worried it could be the headgasket

having said this wouldnt there be some sort of smoking, I can honestly say there is zero smok at all and only a tiny bit when the engine is cold and it clears very quickly, dont want to buy a new rad only to find out it's the headgasket as well!

It's difficult to know what to do beacuse there is a hole in the top of the rad as well!
