hissing noise from engine

Red face hissing noise from engine

when i put my foot down it gets to about 3000 rpm then theres a hissing noise coming from engine. sounds like its coming from right side if im in the car. dont happen in neutral. only when driven. am i being paranoid or what? one second its not there 2900rpm then it is 3000rpm in different gears also? any help very appreciated thanks

you sure it is just not your turbo spooling up? I had my exhaust changed for a decat and mine makes similar noise but would not quite say hissing but more amplified turbo spool sound if you know what i mean

i dont know mate. dont always do it. dont seem to pull any harder when the hissing starts. thanks for reply anyway

Hissing sound is almost definitely a boost leak. Check the hose from the turbo to the intercooler and intercooler to manifold.

cheers mate. will do. i looked at a few pipes yesterday but aint got a clue bout under the bonnet. i will look harder. thanks

Agree that this is a boost leak. Most likely the Y-pipe under the manifold or the thick one that goes to the throttle body. First one is most likely.
It wont make the noise in Neutral as the turbo will produce no boost without load.

could be the gasket on the intercooler just got a new one for mine
