Default Cambelt Change

As I have to get the cambelt done are there any other belts etc I should have replaced whilst its off?

I know that I should do the alternator and power steering, are there anymore?

nope, thats about it, but you may have idler pulleys and a tensioner to replace. depending on the mileage, it may be wise to do the water pump at the same time as the cambelt has to come off to do it

I have a tensioner ready to go on if needed. How many idler pulleys would I need? Sorry I don't have a clue about engines lol

Car has done 53,500 miles.

Cheers

one with teeth and 2 smooth, also the pulley that is pushed by the tensioner

just get them to check the pump and replace if needed, could be worth it depending on what you want to spend though

Worth considering doing the crank seal too.. although they do seem to be nearer the 100k mark they fail..

How easy is the seal to get out, is it just a case of jabbing at it with a screw driver?

Drive a couple of screws into seal to aid pulling it out.

no..

two ways to do it and normally end up using the second method anyway. . lol

drill two small holes in the seal carefully.. screw a screw into each and pull with pliers.. when the screws pull out leaving the seal still in place.. get a longer pair of screws and blunt the tips.. then screw in until they meet the surface behind and then keep turning and the seal pulls out along the screws.

just becareful not to damage the crank or oil pump surfaces.

Good advice on the crank seal, just a few quid and its easy while the cam belt is being done. Mine started leaking at 64K smoke everywhere as they tend to drip onto the exhaust. You really don't want that and its embarrassing when you park up!
