Default What Gearbox

My P1 gearbox is on it's last leg's and will need rebuilding soon I feel.
What I would like to know is what is the difference between the P1 and an Sti one?
How easy is it to get the Sti unit in the car (it's a 1994 jdm wrx)

James

If you stick to version 3-6 sti the ratios are the same only the r, ra, and wrx use different ratios and final drives on those years.

It's often said yes but 0.738 Is the final gear ratio listed on the P1 and is the listed ratio for above STI models.

It has a short 1st 2nd 3rd but 4th and 5th are longer, i think from memory 90mph is 4k revs (in 5th) what sort of power do the Sti handle?

Do you track it?
If so dont put in the sti5 one - they cant take the abuse (sti5 owner speaking!)
If you do then you'd probably want to put in the sti 6 speed or go for the PPG synchro kit - both are expensive. PPG can take all the abuse I give it but it is quite whiney...... even the synchro version - though its something you get used to as its onloy marginally intrusive

thanks guys, what im going to do is put an Sti one in then get the P1 rebuilt over the next few months I have just had a new clutch ££££££££ new Ap disks last month etc etc etc I cant afford got the car to be off the road and if im getting the P1 box rebuilt I want it done properly, so what I need is a gearbox capable of taking 300 hp for a few months while I get the P1 one rebuilt.

Will any Sti box go in assuming correct diff, are the version 1,2,3,4 more robust or less than the later ones?
will i need to change anything else I think i have a 4.44 final drive or something!

If i have a P1 box will the Sti one work with the diff i have, are the diffs different with the different Sti versions? I.E will a version 1/2 or 5/6 still go in does it make a difference?

I have a wrx and got really p!ssed off with the short ratios, so I changed to a uk spec gearbox and it tranformed the car. Its far better to drive its not screaming its nuts off at 80mph on the motorway and its quicker up the strip as it has 1 less gear change. Put a uk box in you wont regret it .

Also, the guy who changed it for me said that there is no difference in strength between uk and wrx.
