Default Fuel tank venting

Hi Guys,

Sorry another newbie question.

Whenever I loosen my fuel cap to remove it, there is a serious amount of tank breathing going on.

Is this normal on Type UK Sti's? version8 if it makes any difference.

Cheers
Gordon

The less fuel in the tank the more it will seem like its srugling fir air when you open the tank, try keeping the tank toped up, that should calm it down.

mine does this also,as previous post worse with less fuel.
it is probably because the tank is not constantly venting, the ecu controls fuel tank venting by operating the fuel tank vent valve.

Thanks for the replies Guys , so it is normal for it to do that..........whew!
I thought I might have had some blocked breather or something.

I haven't let the tank go really empty, never had the reserve light on. Normally fill her up when it gets below the 1/4 mark (average fill up is 43ish litres). I might make it a habit to crack the fuel cap when it gets to half way mark to relieve some of the vacuum.

Now need to concentrate on breaking into the 20's in the mpg fuel usage. It is a thirsty lil bugger.

I think you will find they all do this and is normal.
I am not sure if this is the case but it may well be that the action of the in tank pump causes a slight pressurisation of the tank, what you hear is the tank venting to atmosphere when you crack the cap. Just my thoughts
