Default Classic WRX Wagon 2000 OBDII?

Can anyone tell me why my OBDII laptop set up will not talk to the above car.

Obviously the socket is there, I just cannot get the link up. It is a classic wagon.

Kit works fine on MY05.. Is the wagon not OBDII??

Any help appreciated.

Your wagon isn't OBDII compliant. I don't think any classics are, most petrol cars built 2001 onwards are however.

Any diagnostic tools that will work with your car will probably rely on the SSM protocol (Subaru Select Monitor). If you're after tools that do work, EcuExplorer works with mine, OBDKEY will soon support the older models too.
