Default JDM Dial Cluster/Dash

Hi,

I am contemplating a mini project - transplanting the JDM clock's (RPM, Speedo etc) into a 05 STi Type UK (namely mine).

Anyone know where I can source the dash and what's likely involved in doing this type of conversion (better still, has anyone done this)?

I am going to make allot of assumptions until I can get a hold of the tech specs for both dashes (UK and JDM), I reckon the swap should be straight forward as I am hoping the connectors are the same.

However I have some question marks against some things:

1. Mileage - will the ECU update the JDM dash correctly or will the JDM unit display whatever mileage it has stored?

2. Speedo and Rev's - will these be within tolerances and function correctly (I am hoping the UK ECU fixes this issue)

3. DCCD - will this function correctly i.e. the display?

4. Auxilaries - Indicators, warning lights, service lights etc?

The reason I want to try this is due to the UK dash being a bit bland for my liking, I have always loved the JDM style LED dash so I have decided to try a transplant (fund permitting).

Are there any good breakers who would have access to JDM parts (namely the 05 dash clocks etc)?

Thanks in advance,

Fz

Im not a professional by any means.... but i think i can answer your questions:

1 - The Milage will be whatever the JDM dash has stored, and will not update from your ECU. This can be adjusted by Milage Adjustment companies as im sure your already aware.

2 - This should work fine, as the data to operate these functions are sent directly from the ECU.

3 - Will also be fine, the plugs are the same.

4 - Same again, all plugs are the same... its literally plug and play.

It should be as simple as unplugging the UK Clock Set and connecting the JDM set providing you can find the clocks which are rare. The only obvious issues i can forsee will be the Milage adjustment which will be required.

Trying to find a good set of JDM dials may prove difficult too at a good price, ebay it probably the best place and you may need to get them sent from Japan.

JDM Defi style dash is certainly far nicer than the UK, i was going to do it myself... but then thought that looking at the red clocks in a JDM it looks a little un-suited because everything else in the car is matched to the UK dials.

(Clock in a JDM is still green, ignition key light is green, back lit buttons are green...)

A UK '06 STI has the red dials anyway, and they'll be in mph. So does the '05 USA model (although LHD of course - not sure if they clocks are different).

Very nice! Saw the light then, as I did, and realised Beemer's are OK but only up to a point? Or a second car/toy?

Your previous Scooby's still going strong and as much fun as it always was - now more powerful as you may've seen if you "view(ed) my scooby"

Might have an interim solution... source 06 clocks (probably costly from Subaru) or replace the led's with after market coloured ones.

I had a look at the interior, your right, the JDM style clock's would look out of place so I think replacing the led's would be a good way to go, will have to workout whats involved as I will need to replace the other interior lighting to match.

Cheers for the replies!
