SCOOBYECU PROBLEM. CAR WONT START! HAVE I BROKE IT?
Hi ive not long fitted the scoobyecu into my 94wrx, i got the electriction at work to solder in the socket as i thought he would be competant enuff to do so. However!!!
i plugged the chip in, nice and secure with both the chip n sockets indent facing the correct way. cut the J1 and refitted it to my scoob!
reconnected the batt (so didnt think i had to make an ecu reset anyway) and turned on the ignition......
engine light flashing on n off 4 times per second along with the engine management light flickerin a couple of times and a desturbing TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK sound almost like the same sound as the batt being flat.....
CAR WILL NOT FIRE AND CERTAINLY NO HOPE OF STARTING!!!
i preformed an ecu reset... connected 2 black wires and second time connected the green test connectors also.
put accelerater down for second and released it half way for 2 seconds and triedto start car NO SUCK LOOK......my scoob is brain dead and im far from happy!!!!
just to note, i am slightly worried that the 3rd or 4th time i attemted the ecu reset i kept the accelarater pedal down a little longer than maybe i should of, and the car kinda like backfired, it made a very worrying gentle pop noice from the exhaust......PLEASE DONT TELL ME IVE BROKE MY PRIDE AND JOY!
IS IT POSSIBLE TO DO ANY DAMAGE PERFORMING AN ECU RESET without the engine even being turned over?
any help....ANY AT ALL on this matter will be VERY highley appetiated as im extremley unhappy without my scoob to drive.
Do i need to buy an ecu or ? ? ? what do i do now? where do i go from here, PLEASE HELP.........
Thanks in advance!!

try reconnecting the j1 link to get you running and ask the advice from the person you brought it off of or an expert like scott.t maybe you bridged one of the connectors on the ecu when soldering the chip socket in?

I had this problem with an ESL map when I took the chips out and replaced them with a different set of chips, turned out I had not pushed one of the chips fully in. Pretty sure if you reconnect the J1 the old map will be fine, Id say you have a connection problem with either the socket on the board or the chip sitting in the socket.

If the car hasn't been run on the upgrade, then it sounds like there is a solder short, dry joint or the ECU was damaged during the de-solder and re-solder of the chip socket.
It's not un-common for this to happen.....and to be honest most of the time this happens it's been done by a 'So Called' specialist and in some cases, rather then de-solder using an iron and solder removal tool...a precision drill is used.....in one case making the ECU fail even when reverting back to standard (J1 rejoined).
I've lost count of how many I have fitted a socket to, and have yet to damage one.
The Finger normally gets pointed at the chip, until I provide another ECU, socketed and working.
I have also, as yet, not had any faulty chips or programming failures exhibiting this kind of fault in over 5 years.
P.S I can't see a 'Simon' in my list of invoices, so would I be right in thinking it's not one of mine ????

Exactly the same symptoms as when i buggered my ECU... as described in Scott's post I did everthing I shouldn't have oops...
Thankfully scott is a top bloke and sourced me another ECU and fitted and tested the chip before sending it over to me (At my expense, naturally, don't think anyone running a business is handing out free tested ECU's!)
...in hindsight I should have just paid him to fit the chip to my original ECU lol

thats right my friend, its not one of yours lol, im guessing that my ecu is buggered! scott? anychance of sourcing me out another one plz? how much will it cost if i need one?
is it pointless fitting these chips into a z4 ecu as they have 20 extra bhp anyway? what would be best, another origanal ecu and fit the chip (properley) or just hook up a z4?
i would like as much power from chip/ecu replacment as possible at the safest way........ thanks

Z4's can be used but it is wiser to keep a Z4 standard and sell on, as they fetch a bit more then the other ECU.
Once chipped any ECU will do, but I try and keep like with like i.e keep wagon ECU's in Wagons, WRX ECU's in WRX (mix'n'match 240ps & 260ps) and UK ECU's in UK's. Just incase the chip gets removed and reverted back to standard.
I think I have a couple spare, although one is a UK.
I'll have to have a look as I have sold a few in recent weeks.
