GC8 WRX Not boosting well...
Hi chaps. Not sure how to fix this one.
Have a 95 import WRX - mostly standard stuff. Installed one of those bleed-valve type things which increased the boost slightly and seemed to spool up a helluva lot faster - was a good result and was very happy with it.
Blew the gearbox a while later (entirely my fault) and she sat up for most of a year before I got her going again.
Done a few thousand miles since, but the boost wont pick up worth a damn. I even screwed the valve thing right in until it stopped (asking for trouble - i know) but it still struggled to reach 1 bar and only got there by the redline.
Turbo seems okay - no noticeable play in it and spins very freely. Cant blow air through the actuator so not sure if its suspect or not. No 'obvious' vacuum leaks though the dump valve has been a LOT quieter than it used to be.
Any suggestions as to why my WRX is being lazy? No fault codes coming up either on self-diagnostic.

Nope
Exhaust's brand-new. Even has a cat in it LoL.
Its not blowing at all... But the turbo does seem okay - I've had a few S13s so I know what a buggered turbo feels like!! It seems as solid as a new one...

change the wastegate
i had the same problem. the wastegate actuator on my turbo was the cause. the flap that opens and closes on the inside of the turbo was loose. it was prematurely opening therefore loosing most of my boost through the wastegate.
replaced the complete wastegate... solved the problem

Seeing as the car sat for a while, I'd lean more to there being a boost leak.
Those pipes do get brittle just sitting there, just ask me how many cooling system pipes I replaced when I bought a car that had sat for 6 months!
Sometimes you can't hear a boost leak especially if the tear on the hose is wide. You could check the pipe from the turbo to the intercooler, the intercooler itself and then the short connection from the intercooloer to the manifold.
