Default Removal of Exhaust Resonator

Got an 06 2.0 STi PPP which is slightly louder than a normal STi, but was wondering if it is worth removing the resonator found in the central exhaust section and replacing with a straight through pipe from scoobyworld?
Does it make much difference to the sound? presume an exhaust which is a little more free flowing will be good too?

Let me know?

Makes a whole lot of difference, even more so than changing the backbox in some circumstances.

next question:

is it easy to do yourself? Is it jsut a matter of removing bolts and centre section, then replacing gaskets and boting the new pipe back up?

Yes basically, should take no more than about 20 mins, You will probably not need a new gasket either as the car is not very old. I did my 9 month old car recently and the gasket was in perfect condition. There is only one gasket where it meets the backbox. The other is one of those movable joint thingys.

moveable joint thingy? Not sure what you mean!!!

So when you changed yours, did it make much (if any) difference?

It makes a very considerable difference. Especially so whn combined with a front straight through pipe as opposed to the small cat.

Did it on my '03 wrx and now my '07 2.5 spec.D. Makes a lovely burbley racket

Fitted straight through centre today, much more pronounced "Dugga Dugga" sound, Smoother spool up and slightly earlier boost.
Overall worthwhile

and here are the sound files:
