Default How to clean your Green Cotton air filter...

There were a couple of us talking about doing this so I thought I might as well write a quick guide about it.

Time: 25mins
Difficulty: Very easy
Tools:
  • Green cotton air filter (duh!)
  • Green cotton cleaning kit
  • Hairdryer
  • Shall tray
  • Paint brush
Disclaimer: Done on a classic (MY00) so might not be quite the same for all ages.

Step 1: Remove the filter
  1. Undo the two clips holding the two sides together.
  2. Unclip the two water pipes from the top of the air intake box.
  3. Lift the top of the airbox and push down towards the engine.
  4. Remove the filter.

Step 2: Dust the filter off
Use the paint brush to gently brush as much dust/debris out of the air filter as possible.
Dont push too hard, you dont want to damage it!

Step 3: Soak
Place the air filter into a flat dish/tray and pour some of the Green cotton air filter cleaner. If its flat enough the rubber on the filter should create a seal holding the cleaning fluid in the filter.
Leave for 15 mins.
Use the paint brush to gently brush the dirty filter adding some more cleaner if necessary.

Step 4: Rinse
I used my garden hose on the lightest setting for this, but a tap will do. Just rinse until no more dirt comes out.

Step 5: Dry
Shake and then either place the filter on a warm radiator or use a hair dryer.

Step 6: Oil
Be careful with this one, as you know the lovely MAF sensor hates oil and this is exactly what your putting back onto the filter.
Spray each pass of the filter a couple of times on the outside only. This should be enough, allow to dry slightly and then pat with tissue to make sure theres no excess.

Step 6: Reinstall
Repeat the uninstall steps but backwards

Step 7: Test
I'll let you decide on this one.

Green cotton recommend doing this every 6 months or 7500 - 10000 miles depending on conditions.
