Default PPP.... but not? help please!

Hi,

I bought my car last november from a fellow member.
I got all the paper work for it including the PPP certificate etc.

But i think he.... and therefore me.. have been sold up the river.

The car is a 2005 STi with PPP (and later an ECutek remap)

Today a mate of mine at a garage put some new tyres and dod my tracking for me and noticed a bit of a problem.......

As far as im aware the PPP consists of:

Some blue pipe thing

Sports cat in down pipe

PPP fuel pump

PPP Back box

Remap

And i THINK it removes the centre CAT (pic marked B)

maybe the centre silencer (not sure on that bit) (pic marked A)

The issue is the CAT and the silencer... as my mate says its got both still.

Help/advice/pics of your under cars anyone please?

To note... I thought B was the original on my car as well but they refitted the original heat shields back on making it look like its never been changed.

The blue pipe thing.... thats the silicon boost pipe which is actually red on my car.

It is probably hidden by the heat shield mate. They cost under £100 so its not the end of the world. What figures are you running on the STi that will be a good indicator.

Mine looked like this if its any help, single decat pipe surrounded by the heat shield.

Not sure why tourques so low.. they tend to be a more even balence between bhp/lbft?

Thanks for the pic!

this link will give you an idea...off the car anyway as to what the pipe looks like.enlarge the pic of the exhaust, the top one is pipe you've marked b......don't mind the downpipe pic,it's the earlier version with heat wrap.your down pipe would have a metal jacket.

I recon its there. Only real way to tell is by parking on a curb/jack it up and crawl under and have a look. Its pretty obvious up close. Shine a torch in and all becomes clear. The heat shield is moulded round the shape of the cat so theres no missing it at the edges where the shield clamps round

Just posted and saw your pic. Edit to say there ain't no cats in that shield.

Its not in there mate, you would see the edges of the cat between where the topand bottom of the shield meet.

Yes for some strange reason the heat shield gets refitted to the centre decat. On the STi you don't get a blue turbo hose as the red one on the STi is up to the job. I had my PPP 03STi remapped with PPP cat in place, centre decat and Scoobyclinic 3" middle and rear. Got 328/300 so my torque figure looks low as well, Scoobyclinic reckoned it was because I insisted on keeping the PPP cat. Nevertheless it flies. Don't be worried about headline RR figures its how it works on the road that matters.

you could always remove the centre resonator if you want something louder (but not stupidly so)

I used to have a TSL Firestorm back box on an otherwise standard car, but now i've gone to aftermarket resonated centre section and a ppp back box and it's total bliss in comparison Nice but not over the top. I reckon with an unresonated centre it would sound nice as well

My resonated centre was 120 quid I think with the non resonated costing 100 (from scoobyworld.co.uk, I believe)

So if i change to the resonated centre you have, with my PPP back box it will be a tad louder?

Got the same car as you mate and changed the resonated section for a straight thru H&S pipe Stainless exhausts manifolds headers

Definite improvement in sound especially when you put your foot down but sensible enough not to be too intrusive around town and on the motorway.

Hope that helps

On my last STi PPP changed the prodrive back box & midpipe for the TSL Group N back box & deresonated mid pipe... was spot on no drone at motorway speeds and a great sound. Excellent quality as well.

This pic shows the standard and deresinator pipe....

Excellent. Really great guys

I might go for that H&S pipe first and see what the PPP backbox really sounds like.. i do like it when its singing just want a tad more noise so people hear me coming!

Previous owner fully dynamatted the car so it would still sound quiet to me lol...

Chriswsti05 we even have the same head unit i think .. lol. the bluetooth add on for thats awesome.
