Default Engine spluttering at 5000rpm

Can anyone suggest a reason why my classic WRX has started to spluuter at 5000rpm? It runs normally and doesn't drive any differently until it reaches 5k. One suggestion that I've had is a coil pack going down. Can anyone shed any light on it for me please??

Thanks.

If it's a Pre96 model then it could be coilpacks.
There probably all on there way out if they havn't been changed since new.

See Damaged Coilpack for an image of an extreme (but not un-common) failure
