Default Turbos, post and pre 97

Am I right in thinking pre 97 turbos are 90 degree fitting and post 97 turbos are front mounted? ...So one will not the other without moddin it?

What are you wanting to do? Carl davey sells spacers that allow you to fit a phase 1.5/2 turbo to a phase 1 car.
