Default Less Compression?

I own a 93 Impreza with an 04 EJ25 Naturally Aspirated Motor. Im converting it over to turbo and I realize that I need to get some new engine components such as forged pistons and stronger components. I'm a body man and am taking auto mechanics at school but my friend explained that I will need to have less compresssion in order to run a high pressure turbo. Is this true? And if it is where could I get a full kit to provide less compression, including everything i'll need to make it strong enough to run high boost. Thanks Alot Guys!

it may be cheaper just to get a turbo engine to start with. If you go the changing your engine components route then speak with the likes of Lateral as I am sure they can supply pistons that will lower your compression, and be able to advise you if you need any cylinder head work etc but certainly seems like a lot of messing.

You will also need an ecu, loom ,maybe look at the fuel system as well, exhaust. good luck anyway, maybe post the progress in the projects section.

As above you will be much better off sourcing a complete wrx / sti engine, Your friend is right though N/A engines run around 11.5-1 compression and turbo engines run 8.0/8.5-1. Too much compression on a Forced induction engines causes pre ignition (det)

Your friend is right re lower compression

As above really, better to get a turbo enginbe and transplant it - make sure you get the ECU and wiring as well if it is different.

do not forget about gearbox/drivetrain/brakes/suspension as well as you will be putting twice the power through it

Good luck, how's the weather in Maine?
