Question

I have the use of a Hella compression tester & figured why not do a safety check as I'm going to be at the spark plugs in the next day or two.

The manual states -

"Detach the high-tension cable between ignition coil & distributor from the distributor & connect it to earth (e.g. engine block).

Important : If an electronic ignition system is used, be sure to pull the main plug out of the ignition control unit before measuring work."

I have a MY95 & I know there are no high-tension cables between ignition coil & distributor as there are coil packs instead.

Does anyone know a set of steps that I should follow that are specific to a MY 95 scooby when doing a compression check - such as what I connect to earth, where is the ignition control unit or equivalent to a MY95 & what compression should I be looking for?

Any info greatly appreciated.

Regards in advance

Johny.

Just disconnect all the ignitors from the plug just under or around the inlet manifold. Remove spark plug one and same as other setup.

Key thing when doing this is to determine what you are trying to find.

When the engine is hot the rings will have expanded giving an inaccurate reading.

From cold if a cylinder is burning oil then the oil between the block and rings will give you a better compression reading.
