Default Bumper Support Bars

The front bumper support bar on mt Classic has corroded to the point that it is now lying in bits so I'm about to source myslf a replacement.

Can anyone tell me if this can be done with just the use of sockets, spanners etc or is there any welding involved?

thanks in advance.

No welding it just bolts onto end of chassis legs, about £30 from main dealer.

I picked one up from fleabay for £42. Easy enough job to change them over and now the bumper is solid. My support bar was non existent due to corrosion.

Is this a reason for "Bumper droop" as mine (MY99) seems to be showing too much gap around the sidelight areas ???

Could well be mate, mine's like that - I noticed a few peices of corroded metal last time I was cleaning it in the front grill next to the radiator. There was a bit of stubborn wax that wasnt coming off the bumper that I couldnt get at because of the grill, so removed it and found the remnants of the bar - all in bits, one of them about a foot long.

Got a piccie on my phone, will try and post it later.

Bumper is a little bit "flappy" if you wiggle it but is stable enough for now, but seeing as I'm currently on "fixing binge" its next on the list, and thankfully the parts not too expensive to replace.

you might be able to see it if you look behind the reg plate - other than that try removing the grille, just 2 bolts and couple of clips IIRC

Sorry to re-vive dead posts lol!

I replaced my bumper with a MY00 one yesterday and OMG I couldnt believe that my bumper was still held on properly, the support bar crumbed around the plastic lugs as I pulled them out! No rust on the rest of the car though??? How come these rot so bad :|

Does anyone have the subaru part number please?

Cheers, I just rung up and got a quote of £90 odd, which may be down to my 'import' needing the exact same parts as UK, but just at greater cost. I don't believe it for a second, but just to be on the safe side, SURELY the UK and import bumper bars are the same for all classics?

Is that from a dealer because it should be circa £30, yes it the same part on an import.

Yes it is. They are often pretty good on price, but every now and again a rogue one turns up that's way more expensive. I only described it to them on the phone so no doubt they've got the wrong part. Anyone know how much the bolts are for it? I.e. the big ones that go two each side into the chassis legs? I bet they're a tenner at least.
