Default Defi Problem

Have just fitted 3 Defi Link gauges and have a problem.

All the wires are connected properly, but when the headlights are switched on the gauges stop (lose all power). They are fine with the sidelights on. We have checked and the power stays at a constant 12v on the illumination with sidelight and headlights.

The other problem... when the ignition is first switched on the gauges don't do anything. They only power up when either the engine is turned on, or if you turn the sidelights on.

I'd normally guess thay the ingnition fed wire on the Defi unit is connected to the sidelights by mistake, but we have checked 3 times are the wires are definately as it says in the book. (black = earth, white = illumination, orange = ignition, and red = constant live)

Any suggestions?

Maybe a problem with the small electrical connector & the pins/wires are mixed from factory. Have you checked the pole positions of the main power connector. They may have got the pin order wrong?

i wired mine into the iso cables running from the stereo, although I seem to remember having to change the wiring first off (although i followed the correct wiring diagram) as the BF's wouldn't light up without the headlights on.

I'm pretty certain the instructions were incorrect - certainly in my case.

I have also noticed (now it's dark) that when the ignition is turned on the gauges flash, quite dim and quite quick. (The needle doesn't light up)

When the sidelights are turned up the gauges start as normal, but still die when the headlights are swithced on (although they do remain lit)

We have re-wired them this morning and they now work fine.

I remember that when the foglights are switched on the headlights go off, so not sure if had something to do with that somehow.

But all working and looking good!!!!
