Default Tapping noise

Hi folks,

I am in need of help urgently.

I am getting a tapping noise coming from the engine (i think). It only does it when I accelarate and the faster I go the more frequient it becomes. I know i need a new clutch could this be something to do with it????

Please let me know if you have any comments.

Cheers

Bruce

The clutch would not make a tapping noise.

Tapping could be absolutly anything. Be more specific or post up a vid with sound.

Boost control solenoid / wastegate? Think I've read some turbos do this but not sure if it affects Imprezas.

I was paranoid about tapping - but on tick over - Subaru mechanic said 'they all do that mate' injectors I think.

Wierdly the boost control solenoid on mine continued to tap away after ignition was turned off for a while but seems to have fixed itself :-)

Without a bit more info though a bit difficult to diagnose

My yoke seems to tap loudly enough on idle, but it has done that since I bought it, and my driving experience has never suffered. I did at one point put in Wynns Supercharge for Oil into the engine block, and it definately quietened down the taps for a while. Seems to have come back since though, but as ClintUK was told, they all seem to do that.

Yours however....who knows, tapping/knocking isn't a good thing altogether so I'd get it checked out for peace of mind. Hope it goes well for you man.

i dont know if it works on these flat 4 engines, in a inline 4 engine,if you rev it up to around 3-3.5000 rpm (in netural) listen out for a loud knocking noise, if its loud at that aprox rpm then your bottom end is fooked...

Not meant to be funny but,

check the arm that stops the bonnet from falling on your head is locked in and not loose. I had this happen once (I guess I must have been checking the oil and when finished not put the arm snug into its "home" location). Then every time I accelerated the arm would move a rub against something, not sure what, and create a knocking noise.
