Leave the standard one in, does the job perfectly well.

Nice splitter by the way.

I have never been a fan of dump valves either.

Do agree, it does look a tidy WRX

I went through the same 'get it out of my system' thing with a HKS SSQV dump valve. Do miss the noise sometimes after going back to the original, but the car runs better IMO and my little girl still shouts 'psstchhhhh' sometimes - so not all bad.

To be honest I'd buy one second hand as long as the seller could verify that it's 100% working. Looking at it with the view that a second hand one will cost less when you buy it, you can run it for a cpl months then if bored of sounding like a HGV's air brakes sell it on without loosing too much on it. Buy a new one and you do loose quite a lot when reselling.

If you buy and fit one you'll have running issues...the dump valve to atmo vents air instead of feeding it back through the system which then confuses the ecu, fuel ends up going rich, then lean, then rich trying to sort out whats gone on from the lost air. Its all to do with the MAF.
I had a forge for a while but after a bit got fed up with the throttle/engine ruff running on changes.

I thought the MAF autocompensates for any lost air not being dumped back?

The best advice would be to stick with the O/E and use the money you save on something else to improve the cars performance, unless of course you get off on scaring OAPs at the bus stop with the pschhhhh and that sort of thing.

Na m8, when you have a atmo dump valve the air passing by the MAF (in the air inlet pipe) continues to flow after the throttle is closed as the dump valve lets air out freely, this means the ecu reads what the MAF reads and thinks more air is getting into the system and adds fuel. With the recirc, the air flows straight back into the air inlet and cancels the flow past the MAF sensor, so ecu no longer sees more air flow/no fuel added.

Trust me in that it will mess up your running during gear changes...and make exhaust pop etc.

I've got a modified dual dump valve which flows enough back into the recirc pipe to allow the ecu to run sweet and give a little pissst - its also mapped with this setup.

The opposite actually. The MAF has already metered the air and knows how much is in the system. This metered amount is used to add the fuel to create the correct mixture. You dump the air and the MAF doesn't know so adds the same amount of fuel anyway. This causes a very rich mixture for a short time, but does sometimes give some nice pops and bangs although not recommended for cars with their cats still on as rich doesn't do the cat any good at all.

I've also noticed from the 02 sensor that the ecu then tries to correct the rich running, then goes lean and then rich-ish again...really does get a bit messed up for a short period, but yeh, the pops are nice at times...although I've had a few ruff gear changes from it from throttle response.
