Default Dump Valve help!?!?!

I own a 2003 wrx, 21000 miles, 1 owner, completely standard.
Bought a dump valve the other day, ( dont know what make but looks a well made job! ). Anyway, straight foward job, as I thought, so I took the original one off and fitted the new one. The new one has a nice brass piston, spring, adjusting screw with lock nut, little vac pipe inlet spout at the top, a slot in the side to vent to atmosphere and a 32mm spout if to be used as a recirculating valve.
I blocked off the 32mm spout on the valve as I want it to vent off to atmos, I blocked off the original hose that goes to that spout with a blanking plug and started the car........ at tickover the brass piston is pulled back slightly due to the vac pressure in the little hose. But, and here's the but...... when I rev the engine and then let go of the throttle instead of the valve blowing off the brass piston moves towards the intercooler and shuts even more!!?!?
Completely baffled now I checked everything I'd done but no matter what happens when I rev the engine instead of blowing off the valve closes!
I put the original back on but left the 32mm hose off and you can just about hear that one blow off but the new valve isn't having it!
I actually watched a video of this valve in action before I bought it so I know they work.
Have I done something completely daft and missed the point?
Sorry for the long winded post and excuse my ignorance!
Cheers!

Ah right! I thought it was so you could use the valve as a recirc OR atmos?!
The next prob is the hose won't go straight on so I'll have to get an elbow and bits!
How come then the likes of a bailey dump valve don't have the 32mm spout, just the slots? That was what I thought I was doing by blocking off the spout on the valve!

Anyway, I'll certainly try connecting the hose up aswell as soon as I can!

Much appreciated the reply!
Cheers!

sorry mate got it wrong, the way you done it at first is correct try driving with it like that but the way i mentioned is for recirculating and is a better way of running a dump valve or even better stick with the original.

Is the vac pipe defineatly going to the inlet manifold and not to the boost side of the throttle (which it sound slike it could be)

Well I've just connected up the 32mm pipe anyway and its exactly the same!!
Why is something some simple proving to be such a pain in the a**e!?!?
The car is totally standard, never been touched, 1 lady owner. I have got to assume all the pipes are going to right places. The original one works ok, even with the 32mm pipe left off that one you can hear it blowing off, all be it very quietly.
One thing I love about turbo's is that noise and its getting to me that mine won't work! So much so that I'm thinking what if I go out and spend hundreds of pounds on a bailey valve for that not to work either!?
My head is now completely cabbaged!!
Any other ideas??
Thanks for the replys and help!

The manifold depression after you shut the throttle is meant to suck the piston open, if its pumbed in wrong or the line is blocked then it won't be able to, can you suck the piston up with your mouth (you should be able to).

Yeah, tried that already, ( in the privicy of my garage!! ). Sucked on the inlet spout and the piston came back slightly. Also when the car is running when I remove the pipe off the valve the revs drop and I can feel the vac sucking by putting my thumb over the end of the pipe.

Sounds like a dual dump valve.
Plumb it in as you would plumb in a re-circ valve.
I suspect the adjuster will change between re-circ or Vent to atmos.

The spout from the valve is connected to the recirc inlet. Nothing needs to be blocked off.

p.s. This part can be done in public.

Post some pics up of the valve if you can.

So put your original back, and let the engine work as it was designed to.

If you want a noise, lower the driver's window and shout "Pssssssssh" at people, it'll be safer for your engine in the long run

Got your pic

Vac pipe (red arrow)....connects to Yellow arrow, Manifold vacuum activates the valve
Recirc pipe (Green) connects to Recirc spout (Blue)
Adjuster will change how much Pssshhhhh's out and how mush is re-circed

Its a tight fit isn't it.

Lol!
Yes it was a tight fit and I took it to work and had it modded to fit!

Anyway...... My induction kit arrived this morn so I fitted that, went for a drive and Wahey!!! What a luvly turbo spinning noise and a nice perchhssss! when I let off the throttle!

Happy again now!
So the dump valve is being dumped in the bin!

Many thanks for all the replys and advice!
Cheers,
Phil.
