How does the engine fan operate?
Hi my engine fan on my 94 wrx only comes on when the aircon is on. I recently messed up my temp gauge after fitting lockwood dials but wouldnt of thought this would cause this. Is there a way of checking or a way of sorting out whats going on until i find a replacement gauge, Thanks.

Its operated from a temp switch on the engine via a relay and fuse. I assume the car is overheating? Is it getting hot enough to operate the fan. mine doesnt cut in til 97 degrees?

no its not overheating bit scared to leave it for the steam to come out which relay is the fan one so i can check that or change it would it stop the gauge working though as i never broke it off all the others are fine it just doesnt work and neither does the fan at temperature so im hoping it could be a relay now
