Default over 320bhp

I own an MY99 with 270bhp and have just bought a vf28 turbo and will be getting a fuelab fuel pressure reg then re-map to 320bhp.

Always on the lookout for more power , i'm just wondering what sort of mods (and prices) are required to go beyond 320 and what power outputs can be acheived.

I know my standard clutch and gearbox will be reaching their max at 320 and will be upgrading them as soon as they explode.

Types of things i'm wondering about are;

Another turbo?
Injectors?
Internals?

Any info much appreciated.

Question is how much more power would you like? Or more importantly how much are you willing to Spend...

If your on a budget and are aiming for around 360-370 bhp, you could opt for:

TD05 18G
STI 7-10 Intercooler
550CC Injectors
Re-Map

The above you could get done within £2k comfortably

(Assuming you are already running a 3" decat/sports-cat system and induction)

Internals are a maybe. It depends on the current state of the engine and if it has been abused previously. If it's in decent condition it should last a fair while but ultimately for longevity it would be best to upgrade the pistons and rods. Which would put you back about £3k.

Or go for 330 to 340bhp with a VF35, and save your box (prolly !).

Thanks for the info guys.

Much appreciated.

Think I'll look for an intercooler before it goes to Mr Forrest shortly.

that should last me for a bit till I get bored!

You'll be ok on the MY99 internals and gearbox with a VF28 mate (long as you look after it well). I consider getting your headers ported, uprating your turbo hoses and getting a 3 port boost solenoid too.

Have a look here for what I did with mine.

first off, as you say clutch and box will go bang at that stage unless your very very gentle with it, i killed mine at 280ftlb lol. assuming its a uk my99 turbo, then at 350 your engine wont last long, so unless your planning to have a rebuild with forged internals etc i'd stay below 340/340

to hit that, vf34, headers, decat, front mount, induction kit, boost controller and uprated oil cooler to be on the safe side and you should be larfing. the 440 injectors ae good for up to 350bhp so unless you go above that save your money and put uprated oil cooler on it. Also put a nocklink on it to be on the safe side. despite what the trolls on here say they are worth having, you may never use it, but if det does happen and you don't know about it then you can kiss goodbye to your engine, so £200 at the risk of 3k for a god rebuild? you decided which is the best.

With the injectors it depends on what fuel pressure you are running, mine is standard pressure with a 89% duty cycle on 550's with a Td05.
To get 350bhp from 440's would need a considerable raise in pressure i would imagine.

350 is supossed to max them out, tbh i'm not realy sure 350 is a realistic figure if you want to keep reliability so prob better to save the money

I think you would find they max out at around 320 depending on the rollers used.

I just think it would be more practical to fit 550's rather than 440's with raised pressure that would be maxed out.

Weeebell : To answer your original questions.
1. A VF28 is a reasonably quick spooling turbo, typically capable of 350 bhp.
2. At standard fuel pressure your 440cc injectors will max out around 320 plus bhp. You could substantially increase the fuel pressure to extend the range of the injectors but that would not get you to 350 bhp reliably and the best solution would be 550cc injectors.
3. Driven intelligently your internals are probably good for well in excess of 380 bhp.
4. You need a full de-cat turbo back performance proven exhaust system and ported headers and matched uppipe will assist.
5. Your existing air box and panel filter are capable of more than your VF28 can turn out.
6. Even at the present time you will be experiencing very high induction charge temperatures so consider fitting a charge temperature guage (change out of £50 inclusive of postage) or alternatively a quality front mount intercooler.
I hope this helps.
