Default Help:Boost problems/TD05-16G/ported Wastegate

Hello

I drive a EDM Impreza Turbo MY 98 with a FE TD05-16G big

when the Turbo was new i ported the Wastegate from 25 mm to-> 28 mm

then i fitted the Turbo.

The Boost in 3th Gear is:

1.3 bar @ 4600 RPM
1.2 bar @ 5100 RPM
1.1 bar @ 5300 RPM
1.0 bar @ 5450 RPM
0.9 bar @ 5700 RPM
0.8 bar @ 6000 RPM
0.7 bar @ 6400 RPM
0.65 bar @ 6900 RPM

the car is not competitve with this boost process.

Is possible that this boost loss is caused of the ported Wastegate ????
I d`ont have more idea nothing boost loss found elsewhere.

thanks for answers..

SO what happens if you simply disconnect the boost signal to the actuator? If you then get full boost all the way from 3000-7000 revs then you know it's the wastegate or the controlling signal.

Yes. Block off the open side of the boost controller and leave the actuator disconnected.

You CAN drive like that, but be very careful. This is just a test to see where the problem lies. With the actuator's boost signal disconnected, you will effectively have no boost control at all i.e. it will boost up to the maximum the turbo is capable of if you keep your foot down. It's just to check whether the wastegate is working or not.

If it still gives you this low boost problem, you know your wastegate/actuator is at fault, probably stuck open. If you get full boost now (only test it very briefly!) then you know the wastegate/actuator are OK.

I would say it’s the waste gate, if it was originally 25mm then you ported it to 28mm you need to adjust your boost controller/ecu to suit. Other wise you will be making less boost for sure.
