what's your goals ?
ie.power.

vf34 or 35 will make around 330 - 350 , some more, some less depending on supporting mods, spool quite well
or a td05/18g will make a bit more with a bit more lag

you have got a stand alone ecu i take it ? apexi, link, motec , similar

I am not after huge horsepower but would like a little more

I am running a standard ecu with a mines chip

don't want a lot of lag as I think it spoils the drive

get urself a apexi power fc,550cc injectors, walbro fuel pump and a fmic and your existing TD05 will make 350bhp, it will be boosting a safe 1.4bar, i am currently running this setup on my 93 wrx with standard internals and its used as a everyday car
