Question Body Kit On or Off when painted?

Hi guys I've got a classic Impreza with the WRX ABS plastic black bodykit and rear bumper spats. I want to get them painted as I think unpainted they really let the car down.

Thing is the three garages I've been to for quotes all want to leave them on for painting.

I'm not really up for this as I've seen some that have been painted on the car and the finish isn't that great with bits being missed near to the body of the car.

All three garages have said they'd paint with the kit on just incase upon removeal the kit warp. I can't see this happened as the kit is very strong as standard, not like a RS Turbo kit that certainly would wrap.

I want the best job possible so I'm thinking of having the kit off, but them I'm not a trained painting so I guess I should listern to the paints shops? Right or Wrong?

when off and hanging the light that shines on the parts being painted can tell you if there is any dry spots and lack of paint and when sanding for primer u can get in to all the edges and corners when sanding on the car u cant hence u might get paint peel in the corners

See thats my point, you'll get a bit finish if they come off, better access for painting and sanding. Think i'll ignore the paint shops and take them off myself and simply hand them to them to paint.

Cheers all

Actually its both.

Most aftermarkety bodykits have an absolutely appauling fit, therefore they need addition prepping and finishing ON the car to make sure all the lines and seams match the flow of the bodylines of the rest of the car. Once that is done, they have the final paint finish applied off the car.

Is it a blow over of the original paintwork? Lacquer too?

How much is it going to cost you and what will the final bill include?

I'm thinking about getting my paintwork sorted soon.

The kit I've got is ABS plastic, so it unpainted. My car was mopped a couple of months ago so I'm lucky enough to get away with just having to paint the kit.
Including both side skirts and spats, plus my bonnet and vents being colour match and a front spoiler the bill comes to £375-£450 dependant on labour.
