Default Do Scooby's Benefit from Induction kits?

Hi all - again!!!

My scooby is 2005 WRX and i was thinkin about putting an induction kit on it, but the guys from pistonheads said there is no point. As it messes with the air fuel mixture etc and can mess up the running of the engine.

I'm looking at getting the PPP package soon, and will having an induction kit help the scooby get more BHP out of the engine?

Cheers,

John

NO !

A decent panel such as Green, K&N or JR Racing will suffice. An I/K can sap power by drawing in hot engine bay air, increasing intake temps and giving the I/C a harder life. They can also cause DET by running lean, and vibration can kill the MAF sensor. Same answer on VTA dump valves too. Lots of money for no benefit and potentially less power.

PPP is only worthwhile if the warranty is important. As you were prepared to sacrifice it for an I/K then maybe you should look at other tuning packages for similar/more power gains for less cash. A decent BB, decat/deres centre, decat U/P and sports cat DP, along with a remap and Samco I/C pipe will get you 280bhp+ for less than the PPP price. Add in a fuel pump, injectors and STi TMIC for +300.

If you want to make a Scooby faster, concentrate your efforts on the chassis and suspension.

^^^^ What he said^^^

Induction Kits only really a necessity if you have a FMIC. Otherwise, waste of time for most people's spec.

Everyone I know who went for a VTA dump valve got sick and tired of the racket and commented that the car didn't run as well with one on. Stick to the std perfectly good recirculating one!

The standard airbox can flow enough for over 400BHP.

Whilst I agree completely with all of the above , I will just add that in back to back testing on the dyno with a standard 2005 STi the RCM induction kit yielded 13hp more power than the standard air box...I have yet to see a panel filter gain quite as much as that on an otherwise standard car...

an induction kit can be good..........as long as it is adequately heat-shielded

I wouldn't fit one without getting it mapped directly afterwards.

There are gains from an IK over the airbox, or better still, Cold Air Induction Kits, but only after a certain power level.

Waste of money until you are running a front mount and over 400bhp
