Help with nut removal !
I have been trying to remove the front strut top nut for half an hour with little success.
I have the appropriate 17mm ring spanner and 7mm(I think) allen key and soaked it in wd40 but the nut doesn't want to budge.
Am I forgeting something obvious? any help please.

Bob.
I take it you can just not shift it, The problem isn't that the allen key is turning Etc or rounded off in the damper shaft ??
The best & easiest way (Assuming the car is not already disabled !!!) is to tkae it to a garage with an Airgun. Get them to crack the nut, Nip it back up V slightly with your ring spanner & Allen key, Then head off home Etc.
The other alternative is to remove the whole of the topmount & shocker & then get a pair of good mole grips/vice grips on the damper shaft, trouble is if you want to re-use the damper you may end up scorring it , If not , it does not matter.
Best of luck

The strut is already off the car.
The allen key thread has not rounded but I fear it may if I exert any more pressure.
Is scoring the shaft a problem as I do intend to use it again.?

Exactly the same on my car. What i did in the end was to grip the top plate of the shock with some Mole grips and place the whole thing on the floor. With the Grips firmly clamped this made the shocks stable on the ground. This was enough for me to exert enough pressure to remove the nut. I hope that makes sense!!
