Default Not sure if my MAF is dodgy??

i did a diagnostic on the car 1999 Impreza turbo 2000, and got codes 53 and 23 so to me that says MAF and something possibly to do with the immobiliser as 53 has a link to about 5 different things

so i reset the ecu, take it for a drive and the engine check flashes all clear at 0.5 sec intervals

wanted to check my MAF again so pulled the sensor off with car running and it stalled tried again and it idled ok tried again and it stalled lol, then did another ecu check and it flashed code 23! so i take it when u remove the maf sensor to check it the ecu logs a fault

should i just buy a new one, as the car is hesitating slightly sometimes on boost in 2nd like its running less psi than it should also it i give half throttle up through the revs i can feel a slight hesitation, then if i floor it its ok

i know this has been covered alot but any advice would be great as im all new to scoobs

thanks
Barry

If the MAF is the original then yes replace it. £78 for just the MAF from a dealer.

don't replace that. You'll need some torx heads to get the retaining bolts out. they have an anti tamper pip on them which you can just break off if you cant get the specific torx to work with them.

thanks mate yeh i will get one ordered up tobe on the safe side, good read that thread

must say ive noticed my motor aint just as sharp as it was with the ind kit on which i removed last week and fitted a standard airbox and green panel filter,

ive also noticed the tailpipe is a bit more sooty around the edge now, it was always shiny clean with the ind kit on which leads me to beleive it may have been running a bit lean on the ind kit and as a result a bit quicker too

im sure im much better off inthe long run though with a standard airbox and panel filter, is there any point in removing the resonator box?

stick as you are and don't mess. Seems to me you've got it figured out and your car will thank you for it in the long run. If you want more performance then look at the exhaust side and consider a remap. Get it running right first and I think with the new MAF you'll notice the difference.

Let us know how you get on.

Not sure about resetting the Ecu I have just changed my MAF didnt reset the Ecu ran a lot better straight away, I guess the Ecu will figure it out whats going on. Thinking about resetting later today though just to see if it makes a difference!

sorry mate i dont have it, i do know that the MY99-00 ones are about 75+vat from a dealer and i may be wrong but i beleive the pre 98 cars have a more sturdy one and its much more expensive around 250 iirc :-(

i changed mine more for piece of mind as it had a foam ind kit on it when i bought the car, car seems to run better now and the 2nd gear boost problem im getting the odd time is apparantly very common and is built into the ecu to for emissions and drive by noise test requirements.
