Help!! Vibration from steering wheel.

Vibration from steering wheel.
I have a slight problem with a vibration on my steering wheel, from around 40mph upwards the steering wheel moves slightly side to side and is annoying me now! Ater having the wheels balanced by two seperate tyre places and this making no difference,a third tyre place said one of my wheels was out of shape,as i couldnt get another seperate wheel as the firm has gone bust (migila) i bought a new set of wheels! This made no difference! I didn't change the tyres as these had only done a few thousand miles. So it went to a main dealer who said it was my front disks,so to be on the safe side i changed the front and rear disks and pads.No different.I then had the tracking done, and was told it had to be my tyres that were at fault even though they had only done 6000 miles, changed the tyres and still no different! I have been told its not the wheel bearings as when the car is lifted off the ground there is no play in the wheels, and the suspension looks fine.Any ideas?? Thanks. Oh and for sale set of 4 goodyear f1 gsd3 tyres with 5-6mm of tread left!

Even if the bearings are shot,There will apear to be NO play because of the drive shaft nut holding them in tight, This needs to be undone to check for bearing play. Many other cars dont so the average joe jacks them up and trys wiggling the wheel. they will never find any playon an impreza using this method

Worn Steering rack possibly, I take it that the track rod ends have been checked for play ??
Can you drive through the wheel wobble/vibration ??
DO the alloys have/require the plastic wheel inserts that help centre the wheel on the stub axle ??
Did you have a centre type wheel balance or a Stud wheel balance, Most common is the centre, A stud balance can allow for the hole in the wheel (Bit that sits over the stub axle) being out of centre .
Worn wheel bearings don't always show up with play ..
Worn Universal Joint that connects the sterring column to the Steering rack (Very rare)
What size are the Goodyears ??
Cheers
