Default STI 8 TMIC

Just finished fitting an STI 8 TMIC into my 05 WRX. I found that the throttle body to intercooler hose is too short. The original hose is 50mm long and the new hose needs to be 70mm long. I assume that this is too do with different throttle bodies fitted to the WRX and STI?
I have had to purchase 1 meter of 70mm internal diameter samco hose as that is the shortest length you can buy it. If anyone else is about to fit an STI intercooler into a new age WRX I have some hose available at a sensible price.

What year was your car? There was no way mine was going on, it definately needed the longer hose.

Mine fitted fine on an 01 WRX, well, apart from............

Take care with the waistgate pipe Archie - check the intercooler isn't sitting right against it (I crushed mine, sending the boost sky high !! ). Felt very fast but the thing would have blown up if the ECU hadn't retared the ignition !

Top Tip

Its cheaper to buy a 70mm ID 45 degree elbow and cut it down.

True about being odd as the same IC went straight on my 05 wrx..!??

Infact, there's only around 5-10mm gap between IC and TB..!

As said, make sure it's fitted correctly (I find undoing n/s bracket really helps in getting IC into position and connected to hoses)..

Just a thought, are you using the STI cast 'y' pipe..?

Yes mate scoop and undertray all fitted and mapped today by Andy F. Excellent results from a true pro and a hell of a nice guy also.

The problem is I think that the intercooler is off an STI 9 and it is slightly different, fits fine with the slightly longer throttle body hose. I have another STI 8 intercooler just cant make my mind up which one to keep.

did you get the undertray with the intercooler as I have an sti 8 intercooler but not the undertray yet - fitting it to a Bug WRX - can I fit it without the undertray?

Thanks
